Make the deer come to you

While I was at my favorite store (Bi-Mart) yesterday, I was nosing around in the hunter's supplies and I saw something interesting. They sell Blocks and bags of salt. I guess that what you do is to find a spot in the woods where the ground is bare. Then you mix the granular salt with water and pour it slowly onto the ground. As the water soaks into the ground and /or evaporates, all of the salt is left on the ground where it will gradually mix with the soil.
Deer will find this spot and claim it. They need this salt and will eat the soil containing the salt. When a buck finds it he will claim it for his own. He will roll in it and spread his scent around. This will interest other bucks who will try to take it from the first buck. Well, to shorten the story, in time they will make a "wallow" where they visit frequently.
Now, you have established a spot where you can count on finding deer. I'm not sure of the legality of this at the present time, but if THSF, then laws may not matter. And, in a case of survival you may know where you can find game.
I'm thinking, that if you are planning to bug out in the hills you might quietly prepare a few places like this. In other words, don't leave your retreat and tramp all over the woods hunting, make the game come to you. It might be the difference between eating or not.

But, in a survival situation you might have to do some hunting at night if you want to eat. If TSHTF, rules and laws may not matter. You may have to do what you have to do to feed otheers. In that case, having something that could attract the game to you might be a good thing. In order to eat, we may have to forget "sportsmanship. Just thinking.
